Submitted by the Graphic Design program
This fall, third-year students in the DESI301 Graphic Design 5 course partnered with the Music Theatre — Performance program to develop the promotional art for this year’s production of Spring Awakening.
Led by Erin Boyce, program coordinator, students conducted a discovery interview with MTP faculty member Kyle Golemba, researched the target audience and carried out a competitive scan. Using this research, the class produced a creative brief that guided each student’s original visual proposal.
Faculty member Kyle Golemba captures the spirit of the collaboration:
“Erin and the Graphic Design students made this project an exciting collaboration. Each of the students brought in unique designs that were thoughtfully prepared with our brief in mind. There were so many creative ideas that it was hard to choose. Ultimately, Bianca’s design won out because it clearly—and stylishly! —conveyed the tone, themes, and rock score of Spring Awakening. We love it!”
Students designed full promotional packages, including a poster, social media graphics, and a postcard mailer, and presented their concepts directly to the client. After reviewing all submissions, the winning design was selected: the work of graduating student Bianca Cindric-Myers.
The Music Theater — Performance program’s production of Spring Awakening, a contemporary rock musical, will run April 10–12, 2026, at the Firehall Theater in Gananoque. Buy your tickets here.
