SLC Brockville CICE student Thomas Bowman is celebrating an exciting milestone as his placement experience at 3M has officially turned into a full-time career opportunity. One of the primary goals of the Community Integration through Cooperative Education (CICE) program is to support students in developing the skills and experience needed to secure entry-level employment, and Thomas’s journey is a strong example of this goal in action.
Thomas completed his placement at 3M’s facility located at 60 California Avenue, where he worked closely with his supportive supervisors. From the beginning, Thomas demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn. Although he initially felt some nerves starting a new role, he quickly became comfortable and confident in the warehouse environment.
During his placement, Thomas took on a variety of important tasks, including counting inventory, double-checking his work for accuracy, and maintaining clean and organized maintenance shop floors. He approached each responsibility with care and precision, developing strong inventory management skills and learning the importance of workplace safety procedures.
Equally important were the soft skills Thomas strengthened on the job. He built positive working relationships by engaging regularly with coworkers and supervisors, improving his communication and interpersonal skills. By the end of his placement, Thomas felt fully integrated into the team and described the environment as welcoming and supportive.
One of Thomas’s greatest strengths throughout his placement was his professionalism. He consistently arrived on time for every shift and received positive feedback from his supervisors for his dependability and work ethic. Thomas shared that he was especially proud of how quickly he settled into his role and established a strong routine.
This successful placement has now led to an exciting outcome. Thomas recently shared the news that he has secured a full-time position at 3M through Career Services. He will begin his new role following an orientation and looks forward to continuing his journey with the company immediately.
Thomas’s story is a wonderful example of how hands-on placement opportunities, combined with dedication and support, help CICE students transition successfully into the workforce. Congratulations to Thomas on this well-deserved achievement—St. Lawrence College and the CICE team are proud to celebrate his success!
