Duties

The responsibilities of SLC Professors include, but are not limited to:

Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse culture and educational backgrounds, experience and individual learning preferences;
Effectively use educational and advanced technologies, and digital learning methodologies to enhance the student learning experience;
Developing curriculum that is appropriately designed and uses evidence-based tools and strategies to support and assess student learning;
Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant with a lens on the future;
Working effectively with learners, colleagues, program and interdisciplinary teams as well as internal and external stakeholders;
Effectively use the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to build a contemporary and evidenced based practice.

St. Lawrence College is seeking experienced and motivated professionals who share St. Lawrence College’s vision to be a globally recognized college, delivering innovative learning opportunities and preparing career-ready graduates to be leaders in their field. 

St. Lawrence College requires part-time professors to teach courses in the following program on the Brockville Campus:

Office Administration Legal and Legal Health Services Programs

The College invites applications from qualified individuals for part-time teaching positions for the Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 terms.  An inventory of candidates interested in teaching courses will be created and retained for a period of one year.  The College has an immediate need for the following courses:

ACCT 129 Accounting Systems for Law Offices (Fall term only)
OFAD 148 Legal Document Production I (Fall and winter terms)

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

Education / Certification / Designation: 

1. For ACCT 129: Business Administration Accounting Diploma or Bachelor of Arts in Business Degree required.
2. For OFAD 148: Office Administration – Legal or Office Administration Legal / Health Services Diploma or Bachelor of Arts in Business Degree required. 
3. A minimum of five years of current and relevant knowledge and experience working in an Office Administration Legal environment.  
4. Experience with PC Law software required.
5. Experience with (ACL) Automated Civil Litigation, Conveyancer, DivorceMate, and Teraview required.
6. Teaching experience using Blackboard or other learning management systems is preferred.
7. Experience in career development for emerging business professionals.
8. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with demonstrated proficiency and practice using principles of andragogy is preferred.
9. A global mindset and a demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
10. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is preferred.
11. A proven track record of life-long learning.
12. A demonstrated commitment to putting “students’ first is preferred”.
13. An understanding of the Ontario college system is preferred.

Candidates who do not meet the education specified but who possess a relevant and acceptable combination of education, training, and a depth of industry experience may be considered.

Candidates seeking faculty positions with the College will be required to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and universal design in learning (UDL).  Prior post-secondary teaching experience or experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred.   An ongoing commitment to professional learning is required.

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a teaching demonstration. Details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.

Reporting To: Dean, Brockville Campus and Continuing Education

Salary and Terms

Hourly Salary Range will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
