14: Personalizing Your Land Acknowledgement 10-11am

  • Join Indigenous Services as we discuss the significance of acknowledging Indigenous lands and opening gatherings in a good way
  • Work in break-out groups to personalize the land acknowledgement and develop relations with the history of Indigenous peoples

16: The Angry Inuk: Cultural Prejudice in the Media 12-1pm

  • After watching the documentary, join us as we discuss the impact of media on culture and the perpetuation of stereotypes

21: Indigenous Peoples Day

Virtual Gathering 10-11:30am: Language & Identity

  • A celebration of identity, language revitalization and Indigenous belonging

Fry Bread at Home 12-1pm

  • There is nothing quite like fresh fry bread and jam; fun for the whole family!
  • Learn to make your own in this at home cooking workshop with Elder Helena alongside some strawberry moon teachings
  • An ingredient list will be provided in advance for registered participants, email indigenousservices@sl.on.ca

22: "Every Child Matters" Panel Discussion 1-2pm

  • Presented by HR&OD in partnership with SLC's Indigenous Student Services Team. Join our panel as we explore the impact of colonization and Residential School on Indigenous Peoples from historical and current perspectives.
  • This is a safe place to discuss Residential Schools and the impact of their legacy on our communities, including the recent mass grave discovery in Kamloops B.C. on May 27, 2021.

25: Book Club Meeting with the Author! 12-1pm
