Audition for the Music Theatre - Performance program

All applicants to the Music Theatre - Performance program must successfully audition to be considered for admission into the program.

Starting in the 2023-24 academic year, Applicants have the option of auditioning either in-person or via video submission. Equal consideration will be given, whether seen virtually or in person.

In-person and virtual (for out-of-region applicants) callbacks are offered to applicants who submitted video auditions but were unsuccessful in the first round.

After you have applied for the Music Theatre - Performance program (1012) at ontariocolleges.ca, take the next steps to book an audition:  

1. Complete the Audition & Personal Statement Form

2. Send your completed form and headshot by email to auditions@sl.on.ca

  • Applicants will receive an email upon receipt of the completed form.

3. Pay the non refundable audition fee online through your bank

  • The cost of the audition is $50.00 PREPAID.
  • Payee account: St. Lawrence College
  • The account number is the letter S followed by your St. Lawrence College student number (example: S1234567).
  • Payment must be received before submitting an audition video.

4. Create an audition video OR book and prepare for an in-person audition that includes the following.

  • Sing two songs; one ballad and one up tempo. Choose something that is appropriate for your character, personality type and age. Live accompaniment or backing tracks are both acceptable.
  • Perform a classical plié, a classical tendu, a single or double pirouette right and left side, a time step, and a 1-minute musical theatre dance combination. (note: Applicants do not need to prepare this dance combo for the in-person audition, which will include a live dance call.). Watch the combo video instructions here.
  • Prepare a one minute monologue of your choice. Your monologue should be from a published contemporary play or musical that is age-appropriate and around one minute in length. Look for a monologue where you are communicating to another character “in the moment” rather than describing or narrating something that has already happened.
  • Email the audition video (as a single link) or Book an in-person audition by emailing musictheatre@sl.on.ca.

In-person auditions will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2024. Please contact musictheatre@sl.on.ca after December 1st, 2023 to arrange your audition.

After you have applied for the Bachelor of Music Theatre at ouac.ca, take the next steps to book an audition:

1. Complete the Audition & Personal Statement Form

2. Send your completed form by email to auditions@sl.on.ca

  • You will receive your login information to slc.me by email once you have submitted your audition form to auditions@sl.on.ca
  • Please allow 48 business hours upon receipt of the form to receive your St. Lawrence College student number and login information

3. Pay the non-refundable audition fee online through your bank

In-person Callback

Applicants who submit their Audition Video before Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 and who are unsuccessful in their audition video will be invited to an in-person callback. The Callback will take place on Brockville Campus on Saturday, April 6th. The Callback will include a variety of activities and assessments, both group and individual, of singing, acting, and dancing skills.

More information will be shared with applicants who are called back via email.

Virtual Callback

Out-of-region applicants who submit their Audition Video before Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 and who are unsuccessful in their audition video will be invited to a virtual callback. Virtual callbacks will take place during the last week of March and the first weeks of April on Zoom/Teams. These callbacks will use a one-on-one interview-style format.

More information will be shared with applicants who are called back via email.
