“The Advertising & Marketing Communications program brings learning into the real world. Each year students get to see the real impact of their work by taking on real life clients within the Kingston area and overcome the challenges they are facing. It teaches students the real importance of teamwork and communication, and gives each student a set of challenges to overcome while they develop at St. Lawrence College."

“I never in a million years expected to have two jobs in my field before I was even finished school! A lot of that is a tribute to the faculty for the preparation and good values you have instilled in me. So again, thanks for always considering me and hopefully I can be used as a model for the value that making a good connection with your teachers is really worth.”

Employers

“Our experience with the current graduates suggests that SLC does a good job of teaching a strong breadth of knowledge across the digital landscape… SLC graduates come to us well rounded in their knowledge and ready to learn more.”

“Great placements through strong relationships with employers.”

“Critical thinking, self starting, and leadership.”

“Having the opportunity to receive real work training with a business increases the confidence level of the grad going into the workforce and enables them to work more independently with little guidance (which is the expectation of the employer).”

“Being a graduate from both SLC and Ryerson unversity, I can safely say that SLC provided me with way more tangible skills and experiences that were (and still are) useful in the working world versus what my peers were developing at university. Without my educational foundation experience I had at SLC, I would not have reached where I am today in my career and educational achievements.” – Employer/Graduate

"One of the most difficult things to teach, but so important for success is the ability to think strategically to understand the implication of actions or the reasons why people say/feel/act/respond the way they do. If you could bottle up those qualities, they could be so beneficial!”

Current Students

“[Instructors] are dedicated, knowledgable and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure you're prepared for life after graduation.”

“This program is great, and I'm glad I chose it. It covers all aspects of the marketing and advertising industry, and has helped me gain enough knowledge to feel confident to enter the workforce.”

“Placement is the best part of the program so far. Being able to work in the industry while still in a learning environment is invaluable.”

"I really enjoyed my placement and it wouldn't have happened without the help of my professors! Thank you!”

"The textbooks we use and other resources are often updated to keep up with the current trends. By using real client examples (ex. Nordstrom coming to Canada and how The Bay will respond with a media plan) we practice real trends allowing us to keep up to date.”

“The program has adapted the courses to keep up with evolving technology, and teaches resources that will actually be put to use.”

“State of the art education in terms of up to date knowledge of current technology and social happenings.”

"All statistics, trends and industry terms are always 100% up to date. The instructors do an amazing job relating everything back to real life and making everything we learn relevant to the marketing industry today.”

"I think that all of our profs are teaching us what we need to know for the workplace nowadays and I am happy with the material we are being taught. I feel like I am learning a lot and that it is all current.”

Alumni

“The amount of hands on, real world experience provided by our program is far greater than that of the competition in my knowledge. We get to work with real clients and have real work to show in our portfolio at the end of plans and collateral that was created (and often used) by actual clients/business in the community which gives us a competitive edge in our job hunting.”

“The teacher's were so knowledgeable, but more so helpful and supportive. I wanted to do well for them, more so than myself, because I saw they believed in me.”

"The school it seems to me is notorious for producing quality "products" from the student faculty. Therefore, more local clients are willing to work with the program and take on projects. This in turn creates professional and personal relations that can transfer into employment right out of school.”

“The Kingston business community it seemed was more than open to work with our program during my time there. That kind of trust can’t be built over night and that speaks to the program’s quality.”

"The third year for me was the differentiation... and the staff. I found them very supportive and helpful in educating me on career development.”

"The program strives to stay current and it succeeds in preparing students for the industry. My employers were surprised that I was educated in different programs such Google Analytics, or different Social Monitoring & analytics tools such as Facebook Insights and that I was able to extract and analyze the data.”

“The IMC program offers a progressive, real world learning experience that is representative of the rapidly advancing world of business marketing and advertising."

"The hands on nature of the IMC program and teacher engagement with students really sets the program apart from others. For example the agency style setup in third year was a fun, exciting and rewarding way to learn.”

"I believe the true differentiator for IMC is connectivity in all aspects - the connection between theory and execution, from creativity to logistical and from student to professional. I also believe connectivity is a true differentiator due to the relationships between students and professors. My program taught me the importance of relationship building and maintaining all relationships.”

“The professors are true assets to the program.”

"I credit the IMC program for preparing me with the marketing knowledge to enter the workforce in my early 20s. ALso joining organizations like the Fuse Mentorship Program gave me the connections to begin my career. I was able to skip past the entry level position by becoming a freelance digital marketer and then found full-time employment with an exciting international brand.”

"Great program that prepared me for success. I hired an intern after graduation, and will likely be looking to hire recent grads for my own company in the next year.”

“As soon as I have the power to hire grads, I will be."
