PSYC 55DG introduces you to the core ethical issues that face individuals engaging in the helping professions. A special emphasis is placed on issues related to the ethical delivery of behavioural services. You will become familiar with professional codes and standards of practice (i.e., the Canadian Psychological Association Code of Ethics, the BACB Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts, and the ONTABA Standards of Practice for Practitioners of Behaviour Analysis in Ontario) as well as the BACB Task list. You will also be introduced to certain legal requirements as they apply to the practice of mental health professions in Ontario and you will learn to implement an ethical decision-making model to a variety of case scenarios. Furthermore, you will be encouraged to develop self-awareness of your own personal value system, beliefs, opinions, and ethics which influence how you form helping relationships. This course will be conducted along the lines of a seminar with some lecture content but the focus will be upon discussion, interaction, video-vignettes, exploration of issues and engagement in activities and group exercises.
