In this course, students move beyond the basics of merely using a camera to take pictures and begin to learn how to see photographically. Working with the primary elements of graphic design, colour, line, pattern, texture, and form, they learn how to design photographs. Instead of just pointing the camera and taking a picture, they learn how to think about what is being communicated in the image, the relationships between the subject and other elements in the image frame, the play of line, shape, form and tone in the frame, colour relationships and manipulating exposure to create emotional tone, and extraneous or distracting elements in the picture space.
