MATH 5004

This course will deepen students’ engagement with qualitative research. Students will form their own research questions and design advanced qualitative and multi methods studies to address these questions. Students will gain experience creating observational data collection tools, conducting observations, and analyzing results. The critical incident technique (CIT) will be studied as an observational method. Protocol analysis, projective techniques, focus groups, and the use of qualitative techniques for digital mediums will be explored. Particular emphasis will be placed on addressing bias and ethical concerns when applying qualitative methods and analyzing results. Qualitative research software will be utilized to support advanced (interpretive) content analysis.
