This course focuses attention on the Strategic Planning necessary to develop a successful retailing operation. Students will study the evolution of retailing practice in Canada, the role of the consumer in retail strategic planning, the importance of location, store design and layout in retail performance and begin to examine the buying function. The basic arithmetic of retailing is a significant part of this course. Familiarity with microcomputers and LOTUS 1-2-3 or equivalent spreadsheets will facilitate students' work.
