FAHP 1300

This course is designed to enhance the student’s knowledge and appreciation of the importance of nutrition to our health and well-being. It will introduce the student to the connection between nutrition, deficiencies and illness. Topics will include: Canada’s Food Guide, portion control, food labels, glycemic index, digestion, holistic nutrition and sports nutrition. The student will learn how to complete a personal nutrition assessment using nutrition software that will analyze: total calories, percentage intake of macronutrients (carbohydrate, fat and protein), fiber, cholesterol, vitamins, minerals, etc. The student will also learn about different body composition techniques and how to reduce body fat and increase lean muscle tissue in a safe and effective manner. The student will also participate in a class debate about controversial topics such as ergogenic aids and sports supplements.
