ESET 540

This course brings together many of the elements of previous courses to the outcome of being able to take a given set of requirements and select and design a complete renewable energy system to fully meet those requirements.

Considerable emphasis is given to the process of designing rather than just knowledge of the technology. Students working in teams will perform all aspects of a project design including customer needs assessment, technology selection, detail component specification, and cost-benefit analysis.

Lecture and lab topics have been selected to support detailed design activities and include: Introduction to mechanical design including forces, stresses, and fasteners, sizing of pumps, piping, and heat exchangers.

Normal business processes associated with design activities such as understanding a customer's ‘Request for Proposal’ and common financial decision making tools will also be covered.
