This course is designed to introduce the student to electrical supply from the generating station to the consumer. Course topics include: working safely with high voltage and current, power generation, transmission, distribution, switching and protection, electric motor theory, and common three phase connection systems. Power electronics, power factor correction and power quality are addressed.  The issues and opportunities presented by smart grid, smart metering and grid storage are examined.
