Asset Management is a methodology utilized by municipalities (and other owners of infrastructure), to evaluate assets such as roads, bridges and underground utilities. Present condition, rate of deterioration, and required maintenance or rehabilitation are critical to the capital planning process. The field of asset management is a necessity for agencies struggling to maintain services and prioritize spending given competing needs. Students learn the basic principles of asset management through a combination of lecture, field exercises, computer based applications and current practices.
