Pre-Requisites:  CIVL 11 - Applied Physics, MATH 18 – Intermediate Math

This course provides an introduction to fluid mechanics and the application of these principles to practical civil engineering problems. The primary topics covered in this course include fluid properties, the measurement of pressure, the forces on typical civil engineering structures due to contact with static fluids and applications of buoyancy. The use of the general energy equation to analyze fluid flow in pipes and conduits accounting for energy losses due to friction etc. is also covered. A brief introduction and analysis of steady open channel flow will also be presented.
