Traditional Irish Music:
Come out and have fun getting acquainted with traditional Irish music through the use of the tin whistle. We will work with the various major forms (reels, jigs, hornpipes), and start to unravel the mysteries of musical notation. The focus will be to learn by listening and repetition. Join a local craftsman in a fully equipped wood-working shop to create a handsome project. Working in teams of two, you will follow the processes for transforming raw material into a beautiful addition to your home. Learn how to safely and effectively use a variety of tools, including the miter saw, table saw, and router. No prior wood-working experience is required. The Art of Carving Birds from Wood
This course will introduce you to the exciting art of wildlife woodcarving. A Sandpiper, the most widespread shore bird in North America, will be carved from Butternut wood. To create a focal point, only the head of the carving will be painted. All tools and materials will be provided for a fee of $25.00 payable to the teacher the first day of the class. Macintosh Computers **Please bring your own Mac**
These workshops are aimed at Macintosh users in the beginner to moderately experienced range, although users at almost any level will find value and experienced users are encouraged to attend and share. The discussion will stress Apple provided applications but also suggest various third party tools. Aims at improving the user experience with tips 'n' tricks in email (Mail), web browsing (Safari), music management in iTunes, and photography with iPhoto. Although each workshop has a focus, general and cross topic issues will be addressed. We also try to find time to address your specific issues. If you have attended to any of these workshops in the past please come again. We will discuss new system updates, new tips and you can share your own experiences. Please note: students are expected to bring their own Mac and power supply for this course. An extension cord may be useful. All Mac workshops are by Robert Gray who has over 20 years experience in teaching and in the 'care and feeding' of Macs and their users.
Mac 1. Mac Basics, Tips 'n' Tricks.
General set up and getting started will be discussed as well as maintenance and software installation and updating. We will walk through all of the System Preference settings and describe what each does and how to make each best for you. Troubleshooting guidelines will help students learn to diagnose and fix common issues. System updates/upgrades, basic surfing and email will be discussed. How to find help. Bringing the Outside in….a Short History of Landscape Painting. After centuries of development.
landscape painting reached its zenith in the late 19th century. Still the most popular genre of painting for the public today, this talk traces its development over the last 2000 years or so. Images of paintings and drawings selected from the different periods in the development of this art form by both known and unknown artists give insight into the philosophical, cultural, religious and artistic influences on our understanding, appreciation and perception of the natural world. Discussion and comments will follow the presentation as experiences, likes and dislikes on this form of art are shared. A short bibliography of suggested reading will be available.
