Introduction to Psychosocial Rehabilitation (online)

St. Lawrence is pleased to have revised their former post - certificate program in psychosocial rehabilitation to a new improved fast track certificate. The post certificate program has changed from 6 x 45-hour courses to 4 x 60-hour courses making completion time possible in two (2) semesters. Students should be prepared to dedicate at least four (4) hours /week to their coursework. All four courses will be running consecutively fall, winter and spring, so you can start any of the courses at anytime. No textbooks are needed. Everything you need is available online.

PSRP 2007 - INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION – 60 hours

hoursThis course reviews the history of psychiatric disorders. The course introduces the students to the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental health disorders (DSMIV) to assist them in understanding how a diagnosis is developed. The course provides an overview of the fundamental theories, strategies, practice models and interventions commonly utilized in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation. During the course, the student will review the principles and values of PSR with an emphasis on recovery. The course will cover a history of the field, current PSR practice models and will assist the practitioner in order to face important issues current in the field today. Instructor: Ruth Woodman

PSRP 2008 - CURRENT TRENDS IN PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION – 60 hours

Description...

This course moves the theory to practice in psychosocial rehabilitation. The students will be guided in putting the principles and values of PSR into practice. The course also identifies the appropriate ethics of a PSR practitioner working in the field. Students will be introduced to the psychiatric rehabilitation process. Family involvement will be discussed in detail and strategies and model to improve dialogue will be implemented. Instructor: Ruth Woodman

PSRP 2009 - CASE MANAGEMENT IN PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION – 60 hours

Description...

This course will introduce the students to the different models available in case management in North America. The course provides an overview of the philosophy, values and skills required to be a case manager in the field. The students will learn to write a service plan/treatment plan/recovery based client centered plan. Instructor: Ruth Woodman

PSRP 2010 - LEADERSHIP IN PSYCHOSOCIAL REHABILITATION – 60 hours

Description...

This is a unique course where students will learn the skills required to be leaders in the PSR field. Different leadership models will be introduced. Case examples will be discussed throughout the course on exemplary leaders in the PSR field in North America. The students will learn to develop the skills required for front – line workers and managers to be leaders in the field of psychosocial rehabilitation. Instructor: Ruth Woodman
