Certified and required by the Canadian Coast
Guard
Who is the course intended for?
All personnel on large cargo or passenger
ships.
All certified crew members on limited voyage
passenger vessels.
What is covered?
Hazards and emergencies that can be encountered
and how you should respond.
The theory of combustion and the use of a
variety of fire fighting equipment
Lifesaving appliances onboard and how they
are properly used.
Techniques that can increase your chances
of survival in and on the water.
Appropriate conduct in a search-and-rescue
operation as either the rescuer or the rescued.
Maintenance and use of rescue equipment;
flares, smoke floats, slings, nets, radios, etc.
Handling passengers in the face of an emergency,
including panic. Includes hand-on
experience in the pool, with fire fighting
equipment and with flares.

Candidate Document Number (CDN) Transport Canada Marine Safety (TCMS) requires every participant registering for a marine training program or course, obtain a Candidate Document Number (CDN Number) from their local Transport Canada Marine Safety Office.
