Registered Practical Nurse - Bridging
from Certificate to Diploma

The Registered Practical Nurse – Diploma Bridging Program is designed to provide Registered Practical Nurse graduates from a certificate program the opportunity to earn an Ontario College Diploma.  The program consists of nine distinct courses; six theory courses, a minimum of two clinical practice courses and a final comprehensive examination.  The program can be completed in approximately 16 months.  All courses are scheduled on a part-time basis permitting participants to continue with current employment while completing the program.

This program is not currently available, and may not be offered in-class in the future.

Entrance Requirements:  Each applicant accepted into the program must hold a current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario and provide a letter from current employer that applicant is working as a Registered Practical Nurse.

PHYS 3000 Physical Assessment
NURS 3500 A Nursing Science Part A
NURS 3500 B Nursing Science Part B
NURS 3505 Clinical Practice 3
NURS 3507 Evidenced-Based Practice
NURS 4500 Nursing Science 3
NURS 4505 Nursing Practice 4
NURS 4507 Issues and Trends in Nursing
NURS 5500 Comprehensive Examination
Plus 3 approved General Education Elective Courses (if not previously taken).

Clinical Practice – clinical area and number of hours to be determined by previous experience in last five years; a combination of medical-surgical, mental health, maternal-child and community nursing is offered.  Nursing clinical skills to be included in the program will be based on previous experience.

Prescreening:  Applicants must provide copy of current registration and a letter of employment at time of registration.

NOTE:  Applicants will be accepted on a first come basis with a total enrollment of 36 students.
