SLC Greg Awards Highlight Community Connections for Students

St. Lawrence College Advertising and Marketing Communications program (AMC) students are getting ready to celebrate the annual Greg Awards, an awards night that showcases the students’ work with local businesses and charities to help meet their marketing and communications challenges. The awards night is Saturday, April 16, and will be held in Davies Hall at SLC’s Kingston campus.

“These students have been working all year with real clients, and this evening showcases their talents helping more than 30 local businesses and charities by providing them with advertising support and expertise,” said Kathy Patterson, AMC program coordinator.  “The awards night celebrates student excellence and provides an ideal opportunity for students to network with alumni, local businesses and staff.”

The Greg Awards has a long standing tradition at the college, currently in its 36th year. Many alumni come back for the awards night, as it was a highlight for many during their time at the college, according to student event planner Mackenzie Campbell. “This year we are as excited as ever. Many of the businesses and charities we have worked with have confirmed their attendance, as well as many of the businesses where our students were on work placements,” she said.

The awards showcase will be displaying work from all three years of the Advertising program as well as an award for high school video production. Categories of work include video production, advertising campaigns, direct marketing, public relations and integrated marketing communications. The employment opportunities for these students are very strong and the faculty appreciates how supportive the community is of the students’ creativity.

“This night is as much for the businesses as it is for the students. This is our way of saying thank you for all the support and the opportunity to let our students sharpen their skills through helping the community,” said student event co-organizer, Ashleigh Russell.
