St. Lawrence College placed second overall at the OCMC competition at the Toronto Hilton Hotel, November 26 and 27, 2015. The team was narrowly beaten by a mere few points by Conestoga College of Kitchener. SLC continues to hold the most wins of any college in the system; winners from the OCMC go on to the BDC national competition in Montreal where the SLC team has won gold twice.

Caleb Huard won first place in the Sales Presentation, Tina Ciccarelli placed first in Job Interview and Will Etherington and Shaunis Sakell placed first in Entrepreneurship.

SLC student teams of Caleb Huard and Holly Udall placed fifth in Prospect Pitching, Tina Ciccarelli and Andrea Bedford held fifth in Integrated Marketing Communications, fourth place in Direct Marketing went to Sara McLeod and Chantal Lauzon and another fourth place went to Kara Reynolds and Luke Hammerstrom in Marketing.

“The competition was exciting and I was proud to represent SLC. The real value came from the hours of training and practice which helped to sharpen my marketing skills even more, beyond the classroom,” said Tina Ciccarelli, third year Advertising student.

The SLC team was coached by several faculty and OCMC alumni and one of the coaches, Kip Tuckwell, was inducted into the OCMC Life Members Club for his continued contribution to the success of OCMC.

Kip emphasized the importance that college faculty play in preparing the students for this competition in his acceptance speech.  “Faculty coaches are the key to the success of OCMC by focusing on competitiveness in a collegial environment, and that’s what marketing is all about.”
