SLC Civil Engineering Technology students take on Queen’s and RMC at Feb Fest

2015-02-05, 10:09 AM

St. Lawrence College Civil Engineering Technology students will compete against engineering students from Queen’s University and RMC at annual Feb Fest Snow Sculpture competition in Kingston's Confederation Park starting at noon on Thursday, February 5 until noon on February 6. Our students have beaten teams from Queen's University and RMC three of the last four years with their winning snow sculptures. This year’s theme is Sir John A. Macdonald.

Student teams working in shifts of 10 people maximum, will take part in the 24 hour building competition. Three professional engineers will judge the entries based on criteria such as creativity, incorporation of engineering principles, presentation and team spirit/morale. The structures must be able to stand on their own, and be safe for children to play in and on.

Food will be provided for the all night effort by Chef Thomas Elia and the students in the Culinary program. Building materials were generously donated by Atkinson Home Building Centre, Len Corcoran Excavating, and the faculty of the Civil Engineering Technology program.
