St. Lawrence College’s Music Theatre –Performance program presents Les Misérables

St. Lawrence College’s Music Theatre –Performance program is pleased to present a new production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Les Misérables, a sweeping epic tale of broken dreams, passion & sacrifice at the Brockville Arts Centre from April 10-13.

Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean’s quest for redemption after being jailed for stealing a loaf of bread. While he is relentlessly pursued by inspector Javert for parole violation, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in 19th century France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.

“Our interpretation of Les Misérables emphasizes the haunting music and the underlying themes of spirituality, religion and God”, said Michael Bianchin program coordinator of the Music Theatre –Performance program.  “The characters face the dilemma of whether God is listening.

There are many renditions of this moving musical, our direction focuses on the music of Boublil and Schönberg and I am sure our production will appeal to a wide-audience.”

Based on the musical interpretation of French songwriter Alain Boublil and French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg’s adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables in 1980, this Tony award winning musical sensation is in its 28th year and is still going strong today.

Featured songs include: “I Dreamed A Dream”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More” and “On My Own and showcases the vocal talents of the Music Theatre-Perfomance students.
