Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! comes to SLC this summer

We are  pleased to announce that St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus, will be the official host of the Hockey Night In Canada Play On! event, August 22, 23, and 24th. This event will bring hundreds of players and spectators from across Canada to compete for road hockey supremacy in the largest Redwood Cup ever.

“We are thrilled to announce that the Redwood Cup will be awarded again in 2014, and delighted that it will take place in such a universally well regarded hockey community – Kingston, Ontario,” said Scott Hill, Commissioner of the program.  “We are pleased that this season’s event will be held centrally within Canada and therefore be more accessible to more teams from across the country.  We are also pleased that the August timing of this event will allow more highly skilled hockey teams from across the country to compete for the Redwood Cup. The event is expected to be the largest national street hockey championship ever held.”

The tournament includes divisions for all ages and skill level in the typical Play On! format, and with anyone welcome to register a team to play. The event will involve only one Elite (Male) Division, one Elite (Female) Division, one male 19&Under (“Grinders”) Division, and one male 17&Under (“Enforcers”) division.  Winners of each of these respective divisions will be awarded the Redwood Cup, and recognized on CBC as Canada’s Greatest Street Hockey players.

The Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! program is sponsored by the CBC, Booster Juice, Pro Hockey Life, Stub Hub!, and UPS.

“We’re very excited to promote SLC to a national audience by hosting an event of this magnitude,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College.
