Inspired- A Celebration of Visual Art-Gallery and Art Draw at Marianne van Silfhout Gallery

May 26, 2014

Brockville, ON: On Saturday May 31st, well-known Thousand Island area artist and long-time St. Lawrence College professor Henry Vyfvinkel will be honoured and celebrated at Inspired-A Celebration of Visual Art- Gallery and Art Draw. The celebration takes place at Marianne van Silfhout Gallery at the Brockville campus from 7pm -10pm.

This event is two-fold; it celebrates and honours Henry Vyfvinkel and also launches the first fundraising event for the Marianne van Silfhout Community Programming Fund set up through the St. Lawrence College Foundation. Artists and art patrons will gather to celebrate the contributions of visual artists in our community, and recognize Henry Vyfvinkel, artist, teacher, and passionate advocate for the visual arts in Brockville and the Thousand Islands. He has been a teacher, mentor and inspiration to a large artistic community and the greater Brockville community. Henry Vyfvinkel will also be the first inductee into the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery Hall of Fame.

Henry Vyfvinkel worked for 30 years at St. Lawrence College teaching fine arts, and although he has retired from teaching, he maintains his close ties to the college and the state-of-the-art gallery, The Marianne Van Silfhout Gallery. “The gallery is a major hub of artistic activities, and I encourage all artists and artist lovers to support it in any way they can, by exhibiting, visiting it and being aware of its potential for meeting space. I have made great friends and formed wonderful relationships over the years both as a teacher and as an artist” said Vyfvinkel.

Guests will attend a reception and exhibition in tribute to Henry Vyfvinkel. Over 30 artists have donated more than 30 works for the event. Well respected artists such as Marg Grothier, Anne Barkley, Lou Charlton, Layne Larse, Allan and Audrey Bain and Henry himself have donated numerous works which will go home with purchasers of the Art Inspiration ticket package.

Further, there will be fine food, wine, a silent auction and special branded merchandise with Henry’s painting “Spanish Moss” will also be available.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.stlawrencecollege.ca/gallery or at the Student Services office at the Brockville campus. Two kinds of tickets available: $40/person general admission, or the Art Inspiration package, which includes admission for two AND a piece of art! Every purchaser of the Inspiration package will be able to select a work of art from the gallery's walls when their name is called.
