2014-10-14, 10:41 AM

Local students will learn about college programs and the excellent careers available to college graduates when the provincial College Information Program tour visits St. Lawrence College’s Brockville and Kingston campuses on Wednesday, October 15. The tour will be on the Brockville campus from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, and on the Kingston campus from 12 noon to 2:00 pm.

“Growing numbers of students are choosing the career-specific programs at colleges,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “In this new economy, it is more important than ever to ensure that students are aware of the full range of post-secondary options available to them.”

The College Information Program is an annual province-wide tour that is organized by Ontario’s 24 public colleges. The tour began September 22 in Ignace and runs until October 24, visiting all regions of the province. The tour includes the Ontario College Information Fair, which takes place October 20 and 21 at the Direct Energy Centre at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

The tour provides students with information about the more than 600 programs available at colleges, along with other important details including:

  • Opportunities to pursue combinations of both college and university education;
  • Details about campus life and student housing; and
  • How to pay for college education.

Ontario’s colleges offer a broad range of career-specific programs that prepare people for long-term success. Graduates are able to pursue rewarding careers in areas such as business, hospitality, IT, advertising, culinary, game development, biotechnology, digital media, and much more.

The popularity of Ontario college programs continues to increase, with more than 58 per cent of new post-secondary students choosing to enrol in college. More than 83 per cent of college graduates find work within six months of graduation.

Other key facts:

  • The number of university graduates enrolled in college has increased more than 40 per cent over five years;
  • 95 per cent of college graduates would recommend their college to someone else; and
  • 88 per cent of college graduates would recommend their specific programs.

“Colleges are assisting greater numbers of students to find the path to rewarding careers,” said Vollebregt. “The College Information Program is an excellent opportunity to provide students with everything they need to know about college education today and the benefits of higher education.”
