Five Foot & Under-Celebrating Fine Artists of Tomorrow at Marianne van Silfhout Gallery

2014-12-09

The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery and St. Lawrence College are pleased to present the first children’s art show, Five Foot & Under at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus from December 8-19. The Five Foot & Under exhibit displays the work of budding young artists; this is their first chance to showcase their art to the community in a gallery.

Gallery staff visited elementary schools in Brockville to run free workshops in class and gave the children an opportunity to learn about the gallery, as well as complete an activity in line with the Provincial Curriculum.  Completed projects were brought to the gallery to showcase in one fantastic exhibit for the month of December.

The opening reception takes place on Wednesday December 17 from 6-8pm where participating artists, their families, teachers and the community are invited to visit the exhibit and share in some holiday treats.

“We have the pleasure of exhibiting work of or area high school students in our annual “Untapped” exhibit and now wish to extend a similar opportunity to elementary students as part of our Community Outreach program” said Doug Roughton, Campus Dean, Brockville campus. “The creativity and expression of the pieces are sure to captivate the community and could foster continued growth in the students as visual artists.”

The Community Outreach Program is designed to help introduce the fine arts and the Gallery to children and their families, while at the same time fostering a love and appreciation for all arts.   Through generous donations to our St. Lawrence College Foundation, and the Friends of Marianne, the Gallery is now able to focus on bringing the fine arts into our area schools, as well as inviting classes in to visit and learn on-site completely free of charge.
