St. Lawrence College's Music Theatre – Performance program presents Anything Goes

2013-12-05, 3:37 PM

BROCKVILLE - St. Lawrence College’s Music Theatre – Performance program is pleased to present Anything Goes at the Brockville Arts Centre December 5-8, 2013.

The first of three St. Lawrence College productions this year, Anything Goes features music and lyrics by Cole Porter.  The original book was a collaborative effort by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, with the new book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.  Anything Goes opened on Broadway in 1934 and was the winner of three Tony Awards in 2011, including Best Musical Revival and Choreography.  It is considered one of the greatest musicals in theatre history.

“This show has been one of the most rewarding experiences,” said Elizabeth Coote, Music Theatre – Performance student and Dance Captain for Anything Goes. “The dance numbers are filled with lots of energy that gets the audience wanting to stand up and dance along. The set is spectacular and it's all around a very entertaining show.”

So settle in while the S.S. American heads out to sea, and witness both etiquette and convention being tossed out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on a course to true love.  Relive this timeless classic with some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “You’re the Top,” and of course, “Anything Goes.”

While not a stranger to the College’s Music Theatre – Performance program, this is Choreographer Janet Venn-Jackson’s first foray into directing.  “It’s the writing that sets this show apart.  The lines lead you from place to place effortlessly.  The songs are timeless and classic and have remained focal points of many famous vocalists’ careers for decades,” said Venn-Jackson.

Anything Goes is the first show produced as part of the College’s new partnership with Thousand Islands Playhouse.
