Award-winning journalist to deliver keynote at Sustainable Energy Symposium at St. Lawrence College

St. Lawrence College Sustainable Energy Applied Research Centre (SEARC) is pleased to host the second annual Sustainable Energy Symposium from April 30 to May 1, 2013. The two-day symposium will focus on enhancing innovation and economic prosperity in Canada through collaborations between industry and academic institutions.

The keynote address will be delivered by Tyler Hamilton, a Canadian author, award-winning journalist, blogger and outspoken advocate for developing a green economy in Canada. Hamilton is editor-in-chief and associate publisher of Corporate Knights, North America’s only business magazine dedicated to corporate sustainability issues and promoting the concepts of clean capitalism and Green GDP. He is also a senior advisor to the newly formed Council for Clean Capitalism, through which some of Canada’s largest corporations are working together to influence public policy changes that reward responsible corporate behaviour.

“The goal of this conference is to bring together leading experts in order to further industry and academic partnerships, “said Don Young, Dean of Applied Science at St. Lawrence College. “St. Lawrence College and SEARC are in a unique position to enhance these relationships in both the research and academic sectors. ”

The symposium will also include highly informative and engaging panel discussions by industry experts and experienced professionals, college student research project presentations, poster displays, industry exhibits, awards, and more.

For the official symposium kick-off, a ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening of the newly installed Solar e-Bike Charging Station at Energy House at St. Lawrence College, Kingston Campus. The Solar e-Bike charging station will use the electricity generated from on-site solar photovoltaic panels and storage batteries to charge e-Bikes for campus and community users.

The opening ceremony will be on April 30th at 10:00 am at Energy House, located on the St. Lawrence College, Kingston campus.
