St. Lawrence College Sharks hockey alumni reunite for tournament

2013-04-05

CORNWALL – St. Lawrence College will host the Sharks Hockey Alumni Weekend, a reunion event and hockey tournament for former Sharks women’s and men’s hockey players, on April 5 and 6 in Cornwall.

More than 100 current and past Sharks hockey players from graduating classes ranging from the 1970s to present are expected to participate in the hockey tournament, which will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 6 at the Benson Centre.

Sharks coaching staff Sean Boulerice and Michael Pettinella have kept in contact with former players, many of whom expressed interest in returning to Cornwall to be a part of Sharks hockey again, which led to the idea of a weekend tournament to involve as many former players as possible. The event provides an opportunity for Sharks alumni to catch up and reminisce while playing the game they all love.

“The Sharks Hockey Alumni Weekend and tournament is a great opportunity for St. Lawrence College Athletics to enhance the relationship with our alumni student-athletes,” said Herb Steacy, Athletic Director at St. Lawrence College. “We have held similar small scale events with our rugby and soccer teams, but to see it happening on a large scale at the Cornwall campus is very exciting. Sean and Mike have done a fantastic job with the Sharks hockey program, without their efforts an event like this wouldn’t be possible.”

Following the hockey tournament, five lucky Sharks alumni will compete for the chance to win $10,000 in a Shoot-to-Win competition.

All St. Lawrence College alumni are invited to watch the exiting tournament and shoot-to-win competition unfold at the Benson Centre. Alumni are also invited to bring their families to the first ever St. Lawrence College Alumni Family Free Skate on Saturday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the Benson Centre.
