St. Lawrence College graduates display art in 5th Annual Alumni Show


BROCKVILLE – St. Lawrence College is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Alumni Juried Show entitled “As You Like It”. The exhibit will be on view at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus from November 2 to December 15, 2012. The opening reception will be held on Friday, November 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Viewers to this year’s Alumni Show will see a variety of artistic expressions including paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylics, and mixed media, as well as photography and sculpture by 24 artists: Karen Atcheson, Nicole Bowman, Belia Brandow, Sheila Dixon, Helen Fenton, Marian Forster, Paul Fournier, Marg Grothier, Keith Hare, Jyneen Horton, Norma Howard, Mike Laking, Michele LaRose, Katherine Lavender, Hanna MacNaughtan, Elaine McClintock, John McClintock, Heather Metcalf-Griffith, Cyndy Robinson, Lorraine Southin, Angie Van Peppen, Peter Vander Velde, Henry Vyfvinkel, and Marilyn White.

Concurrently in the foyer display cases adjacent to the gallery is an exhibit by the St. Lawrence College Part-Time ceramics students. Beautiful functional and decorative pottery will be on sale just in time for Christmas gift giving.

Also on view in the gallery will be a Christmas tree decorated with original “art” ornaments. The ornaments are the creations by members of the Fine Arts Alumni and St. Lawrence College pottery students. Proceeds from the sale of the ornaments will once again be donated to the Children in Foster Homes Christmas Party put on by the Child and Youth Worker students, together with the Foster Family Association. Last year, the sale of ornaments at the 4th Annual Alumni Juried Show raised $516 for the Children in Foster Homes Christmas Party.

About the Art Gallery
The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is a state-of-the-art community art gallery located at the front atrium of the Brockville campus of St. Lawrence College and is a focus for the visual arts for Brockville and the larger Eastern Ontario area. Creation of the gallery was made possible by the generous bequest from the Estate of Marianne van Silfhout, a graduate of the Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College, and other contributors to the St. Lawrence College Foundation.
