Juried exhibit showcases “untapped” creativity by high school and mature students

Brockville, ON - St. Lawrence College is pleased to present "UNTAPPED", a juried exhibition of new artistic creativity by high school and mature students from across Ontario. This exhibit will beon view at the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on the Brockville campus, February 27 to March, 23, 2012. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 2 pm until 4 pm.

"UNTAPPED" features 87 pieces of art by 61 emerging artists from Eastern Ontario. Individuals who visit the exhibit can expect to see a variety of artistic expressions including paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylics, and mixed media as well as sculpture, photography, ceramics and pottery.

"For many of the exhibiting artists, ‘UNTAPPED’ is their first chance to showcase their art to the community," said Marje Fletcher, curator of the UNTAPPED exhibition.

The jury will announce the winners of the juried exhibition during the opening reception. Winners will receive a monetary prize: $2,000 for first place, $1000 for second place, and $500 for third place.

Also on display at the Gallery is 3D chalk art by Brockville artist Guy Wales. Guy has produced a number of 3D chalk drawings at various community events in the area. Guy’s chalk art may be previewed on his website: http://www.3dchalkguy.com/

About the Art Gallery

The Marianne van Silfhout Gallery is a state-of-the-art community art gallery located at the front atrium of the Brockville campus of St. Lawrence College and is a focus for the visual arts for Brockville and the larger Eastern Ontario area. Creation of the gallery was made possible by the generous bequest from the Estate of Marianne van Silfhout, a graduate of the Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College, and other contributors to the St. Lawrence College Foundation.
