2011-04-05

Business, technology, and innovation are brought together for grade 7 and 8 girls in an exciting and interactive conference at St Lawrence College, Kingston campus, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This exciting partnership between the Limestone District School Board (LDSB), Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB), and St. Lawrence College brings together 100 girls from surrounding schools to participate in a conference highlighting the exciting possibilities in pursuing post-secondary career goals relevant to the technology and business sectors.

The first conference of this kind, hosted by School-to-College-Work/PASS program. The Young Women Innovators Conference welcomes two keynote speakers and St Lawrence College women graduates from the trades and technology sectors: Jennifer Anderson, a graduate from the Carpentry program; and Brooke Gilmour, a graduate from the Energy Systems Engineering Technology program. Both are currently working in their fields. The conference also includes break out sessions developed and facilitated through the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) group from St. Lawrence College School of Business.

Throughout the day-long conference, students will participate in interactive sessions that combine both innovation and business challenges, as well as touring the Limestone Skills Competition featuring several young women competitors.
