St. Lawrence College receives training investment

2009-08-25

The City of Brockville, in partnership with local development agencies, will enhance the training services provided by the Eastern Ontario Centre for Advanced Technology (Centre for Training and Development). The Centre, located in St. Lawrence College, will improve the training and resources it already offers to help deliver skills-based certification programs for Process Operators and Power Operating Engineers. The project will prepare the Centre to become a recognized training facility through the Technical Standards & Safety Authority, and serve as eastern Ontario’s only location for certification. The Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF) is contributing $150,000 to this project.

Investing in education and skills training are key components of the government’s five-point economic plan to grow the economy.

"Over the next five years, it’s projected that 50% of Brockville’s manufacturing workforce will require re-certification. Establishing a training centre in eastern Ontario, at St. Lawrence College, not only helps attract and retain highly skilled jobs, but creates exciting new investment opportunities for the future."
— Yasir Naqvi, MPP for Ottawa Centre

"With the help of the Ontario government, a training centre in Brockville will help increase the area’s competitive advantage in these trying economic times."
— David L. Henderson, Mayor of Brockville
