St. Lawrence College honours Class of 2009 (Cornwall)

2009-06-08

(Cornwall, June 5, 2009) Aultsville Theatre is filled to capacity as over 400 students at St. Lawrence College, Cornwall campus, graduate from a wide range of programs such as Environmental Technician, Police Foundations and Computer Engineering Technology. This year, 39 of these graduates will be the very first to graduate from the three newest Cornwall campus programs: Journalism, Welding and Fabrication Technician and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The degree program is a collaborative four-year program offered by Laurentian University on all three campuses of St. Lawrence College.

"Our Cornwall campus has graduated thousands of successful graduates over the past 40 years," said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO of St. Lawrence College. With the recent announcement of $10,000,000 in infrastructure investment coming to the campus, I see a very bright future for the College and the Cornwall community."

Leslie Beveridge, graduating nurse, and class valedictorian at the morning ceremony, remembers her time at St. Lawrence College fondly: "I always felt right at home throughout my four years here," she explained. "The small community atmosphere had a very positive impact on my education. I also feel very proud to be amongst the first graduating class of the BScN program. I feel as though together we have helped pave the road of yet another great program offered at SLC." Beveridge has accepted a position in the Special Care Nursery at the Ottawa Hospital.

Elysa Brunet, graduate of the Business Administration program, past-president of the Student Union and class valedictorian at the afternoon ceremony, remembered the support she received during her years in College: "We had "open door" policies with teachers and staff that allowed us to talk about our fears, anxieties, triumphs and failures."

"We are very proud of all our graduates today," Whitaker said. "Being able to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is of vital importance to the College and our communities. St. Lawrence College, in association with Laurentian University, is pleased to be able to meet this need."

St. Lawrence College held its Convocation ceremonies in Cornwall on June 5, 2009 at 10am and 2 pm at the Aultsville Theatre. New this year, the College is pleased to introduce a live webcast of the 2009 Spring Convocation Ceremonies. This new element will provide easy access to family and friends who were unable to attend.
