St. Lawrence College graduates first classes in Fine Art and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Brockville)

2009-05-27

(Brockville, May 27, 2009) As the 366 students at St. Lawrence College, Brockville campus, prepare to graduate on May 29 from a wide range of programs such as Child and Youth Worker, Firefighter and Music Theatre, the first graduating class of degree nurses will be among them. The collaborative four-year degree program is offered by Laurentian University on all three campuses of St. Lawrence College. This year also marks the first year of graduates from the full-time Fine Arts Diploma program.

"Our Brockville campus is becoming a hub of creativity, and this first class of full-time Fine Arts graduates is testament to our commitment to a vibrant arts program at the college," said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO of St. Lawrence College. "We are so fortunate to have the beautiful Marianne van Silfhout Gallery on campus, which showcases the depth of artistic talent in the region and provides inspiration to our students."

Melissa Perks, graduating nurse, and class valedictorian will remember her time at St. Lawrence College fondly. "I have met so many inspiring people, people who have so much passion and dedication toward their future professions, people who have more drive to achieve their goals than most." Melissa is already working at the Ottawa Hospital in oncology.

"We are really proud of all our graduates today," Whitaker said. "Being able to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is important to the College and our communities. As the educational requirements for registered nursing changed a few years ago, St. Lawrence College, in association with Laurentian University, was able to meet those needs."

St. Lawrence College will be holding its Convocation ceremony in Brockville on May 29, 2009 at 2 pm at the Centennial Road Standard Church. New this year, we are pleased to introduce a live webcast of the 2009 Spring Convocation Ceremonies. This new element will provide easy access to family and friends who are unable to attend.
