"Green Day" at St. Lawrence College

2009-03-11

Cornwall, ON – The Green Team of St. Lawrence College, in cooperation with the Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative, is hosting a Green Day sustainability fair on Wednesday, March 18. The fair will promote greener and more sustainable living throughout our community.

In 2004, a small group of students at the college banded together to form the Green Team. Their goal was to help green the Cornwall Campus and the community. Since then, the group has grown and prospered as dedicated students embark on new and exciting activities.

"The students never fail to impress me," said Donna Orwell, Coordinator of the Environmental Technician Program and faculty advisor to the Green Team at St. Lawrence College. "They work hard in the classroom, they work hard in their jobs, and they work just as hard volunteering their time to the Green Team."

Amanda Willett, President of the Green Team, believes working with the Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative (CCRI) has allowed the group to build their community connections. "As full-time students, organizing Green Day is a huge task, so we’re thankful that the CCRI has been able to help us. The event will give us real-life experience in promoting environmental awareness to the community."

"I was Vice-President of the Green Team when I was a student at the college, so it’s a bit of a homecoming for me," said Jennifer Mattice, Coordinator of the CCRI. "It’s great to see that the group is still going strong."

The Green Day sustainability fair will be held on Wednesday, March 18 from 9:00am to 1:30pm at St. Lawrence College, 2 Belmont Street, Cornwall. Admission is free for everyone, and the first 100 children to arrive will receive a free backpack from Ontario Power Generation. For more information, please contact Jennifer Mattice at 613.932.2088.
