The Eastern Ontario Jack Summit on mental health and advocacy work for youth

2018-03-11, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Robert Sutherland Hall, Queen's University, Kingston

You are invited to join for the inaugural Eastern Ontario Regional Summit hosted by Queen’s!

For those of you that don't know, is a youth lead mental health advocacy organization that aims to start conversations about mental health in communities across Canada.

Each year Queen's holds a summit to discuss mental health. This year we want to reach out to schools in Eastern-Ontario to learn about mental health advocacy projects that are occurring on other school campuses. By uniting mental health leaders from different high schools, colleges, and universities we hope to create a summit that explores  mental health and how we can be change agents in our communities to ensure our peers' wellbeing.  We are extremely excited for the summit. Our goal for this summit focuses on education surrounding the theme of: Mental Health Advocacy.

We hope to address many important questions surrounding mental health advocacy such as:

1. Why is mental health advocacy important?

2. What can we do as individuals to advocate for progressive health policy?

3. How do I become a mental health advocate in my own community?

The goal of the summit is to bring together people within the mental health community, in addition to engaging with people not traditionally involved in mental health advocacy.

We are looking to educate students about our organization and how to contribute to the mental health community at large by combining a variety of educational styles. The day will be filled with workshops, guest speakers, and collaborative group tasks, exposing participants to a variety of opinions and ideas related to mental health advocacy. We are very interested in potentially working with you and would enjoy hearing your thoughts.

The event will take place at:

MARCH 11, 2018 FROM 9:00 AM TO 4:30 PM AT Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.

We are excited to announce that applications for the Eastern Ontario Jack Summit are now open and will remain open until Sunday, February 11, 2018.
